I see my art as a series of daily notes. These notes often reflect what I like to call seemingly ordinary activities, such as walking my dog. It does not matter what season it is; nature constantly sends impulses in the form of shapes and colors, which I store in my subconscious. Swimming, for example, is a medium where with each dive I sketch ideas for a new plan or for developing an existing canvas. Emotions constantly pulse through my work, adding another layer of energy that I need for self-expression. These everyday impulses form an archive from which I draw in my studio, where, together with colors, I create imaginative environments for those who love to find shapes in clouds, watch flames, and wish they could read their stories. Abstraction becomes an individual story for each new observer.
One of my exhibitions was titled “Instinctive Urges.” My urge is to create in color on canvas. I do not need a concrete plan before I start; I create because I am fascinated by the process, where I can experience and discover something new. With the first layer of paint, I noticed that I feel most relaxed, and I return to this state throughout subsequent layers. Being as relaxed as possible is my personal standard, a requirement for the authenticity of what I create. I feel at my best when what emerges on the canvas comes from my gut, while my mind gently accompanies the process.
During the first layer, I observe what happens on the canvas, a moment I liken to a surfer sitting on the shore, waiting for the wave. The wave of imagination comes, I jump on it, and I know exactly how my next gesture will flow and which color to mix. I use geometric and organic forms that I see in nature. I am not a conceptual artist, and I do not deal with provocative topics meant to provoke reflection. My work is primarily a celebration of nature and the joy of observing it.
