About this painting
The ladybug kingdom came to me as a theme – no beating about the bush – during a meditation. I love meditating. I don't know if you have ever heard of Shambhavi – it is my daily whole-body yoga treat.
I have a very warm relationship with insects of all kinds. I have painted one giant ladybug before, but never a whole ladybug kingdom. My enthusiasm for this painting was topped up by my four-year-old grandson: this autumn, on one of our walks, we came across a ladybug and started finding out what a ladybug actually does in the world, how it is useful to us and what its world is like – so here it is, a ladybug kingdom, in heaven and on earth.
For once I conceived the painting as a triptych, but I am happy to offer it to three collectors – in other words, the panels do not have to stay together.
Sizes: one panel 150 × 90 cm and two panels 150 × 55 cm.
