There are paintings that are, for me, a play of imagination. I like to compare them to looking at a sky full of fluffy rounded clouds drifting calmly across the sky, where with every movement you try to name what they resemble. That is how such a whimsical title came to life as The English Mastiff with a Fountain.

A very fitting comparison for the creation of this painting comes to mind, a spring surge, a joyful euphoria that it is spring again, primroses smiling from every garden, an intensely bright green all around, and my female dog Missandei and I happily strolling along on our regular walk.

At first, it was all just a coincidence arising from combinations of nonexistent chances. As always, when I start working on a blank canvas, it’s wild—lots of water and spontaneous steps. After it dried, the outline of a profile on the painting could not be overlooked. For a few months, I didn’t know what to do with it. A big curved snout, and then it became clear, and the completion of the painting proceeded with intention, giving space to a childlike love for the Vinettou TV series and the great chief Intschu - Tschuna.

BUDDLEIA, known in Latin as the butterfly bush, is for me a combination of a strong emotion toward my father and, as usual, toward butterflies and nature. My dad is nearing eighty and, thankfully, he is in good health. He was the one who first showed me the butterfly bush when I was little, and he used to draw butterflies for me in letters he sent to my summer camp. When I think of the butterfly bush today, it carries a feeling of love for my father.

Lately my work has been increasingly tied to curiosity, as if I did not want to settle for the predictability and certainty that play out on the canvas for a while. There always comes a moment when I want to try something on the edge of risk, to take a step that can bring gain or loss. I believe most artists know this constant conflict. We long for that powerful moment of connection with something greater than ourselves, and until we feel it, we are not at peace. That is what lies hidden behind the thin curtain.

This is a story about a little tree frog living happily by a forest spring, simply the kind of life you would definitely want to live as a frog, content and gazing at the moon, which perhaps, despite the great distance, is reflected in her eyes.

A joyful piece what else could it be? Born purely from imagination.
The spiral of blue and white is meant to evoke the dizzy feeling of spinning in a chain carousel.
And that green fluff at the bottom? Naturally cotton candy.
As a child, I longed to go to the Matějská Fair, but I didn’t make it there until I was a teenager. By then, things felt different I was more focused on whether any boys were looking at me, and the rides? They weren’t so tempting anymore… mostly because they’d mess up my hair.

This painting is, in essence, just a little “spiritual joke.”
Too much of anything can become… well, too much. And while this may not apply to everyone, I sometimes catch myself or notice people around me saying things like, “Oh no, it’s the full moon,” or “Jupiter’s in retrograde,” as if that should somehow soften the blow or explain why everything feels a bit off.
And so this playful piece was born a light-hearted image of a radish, raising the question:
What might happen when even a humble radish falls under the mysterious influence of the full moon?

A painting like the essence of a perfume that reached me all the way from distant Mexico, though its origins lie in France.
For me, it’s a scent a revelation. I feel like I’ve never smelled anything more beautiful.
It was brought to me by a friend from Mexico, who shared a few creative moments with me in the studio and always surprised me with a special gift.
That fragrance came at a time when I was in phase no.5 :-D and played an essential role in the painting’s completion.

This painting is a visual memory from my walks with Missandei in Letná, where about a year ago a beautiful pond began to form. In spring, it became covered with water lilies, and the joy of watching Missa swim among them, chasing sticks, her entire body radiating happiness with every move… The magic of the place, the beauty of the moment it all led me to the desire to capture it.

It’s not always a pleasant feeling but that depends on the context.
For me, the inspiration came from a series of ordinary moments: seeing a massive rain-soaked cloud approaching, sensing the tension and excitement rising in the stillness. I knew what was coming. That silence felt like a deep inhale a moment to prepare, to steady myself, to choose how to move forward.
And when the storm finally broke, I was ready. I somehow already knew the sound of those heavy drumming raindrops, the crackle of the lightning. It jolted me but only a little. There was even something pleasurable about the tension in my body, knowing danger was close… yet trusting I would make it through.
And then, as the clouds parted, I saw it the pristine sky, washed clean by the rain.

Two years ago, we left a house where each spring brought an explosion of tulips rows and rows of different varieties in full bloom.
I simply remembered them one day what a wonder they were. So strong and grounded, standing tall even as the wind tried to bend them. They held their own, dressed in vibrant skirts of color.
Like an army of beauty delicate to the eye, yet remarkably resilient.
